Argument of the work
"Stifling, claustrophobic atmosphere of heavy significance. Everything you say is measured." The opening of Sadie Plant and Nick Land's "Cyberpositive" names its enemy in the register of the enemy: the seminar room, the paranoid audit of utterance, the Human Security System scanning for deviation [w4]. Against that atmosphere the text routes a counter-physics. Modernity is read as a runaway circuit, positive feedback all the way down, and the defensive apparatus that calls itself the human is recast as a damping mechanism losing its grip.
The move is a reversal of cybernetic common sense. Norbert Wiener's cybernetics privileged negative feedback, homeostasis, the governor that returns a system to equilibrium. Plant and Land treat that privilege as ideology. Cyberpositive processes, the ones that amplify difference rather than cancel it, get reclassified from pathology to motor. Capital, modernity, and the machinic unconscious are then legible as a single anastrophic drift ([Urbanomic](https://www.urbanomic.com/chapter/accelerate-sadie-plant-and-nick-land-cyberpositive/)). The Human Security System is the name for whatever tries to brake the drift in the name of meaning, measure, and man.
Style carries the argument. The text refuses the seminar's demand for measured speech by writing in loops, citations, and jungle-war metaphors. Reza Negarestani's later reading of #Accelerate registers the procedure exactly: "the literal welding of the punk No with the looped-up machinic positivity of the cyber, 'No demands. No hint of strategy. No logic. No hopes...'" [w2]. The prose performs what it theorises. You cannot extract the thesis from the delivery without losing the feedback.
The piece sits at a junction. Behind it stands Plant's feminist cybernetics and the Orphan Drift collaboration whose 1995 novel "cyberpositive" shared the keyword and the ambient conviction [w1]. Ahead of it stands hyperstition, the numogram, and everything CCRU would write under collective signature through the late 1990s [w0]. The Warwick door with the unit's name on it [w6] was already, by the time this text circulated, a routing point between Deleuzian philosophy, cyberpunk, and rave. "Cyberpositive" is the theoretical license for the routing. It declares that amplification is not decadence.
The stakes are diagnostic. If you accept the reframing, the standard critical gesture, slowing the machine in the name of the human, stops reading as resistance and starts reading as immune response. That is what authorised accelerationism as a position rather than an insult. Robin Mackay's later framing of modernity as cyberpositive in "The Poememenon" [w5] inherits the claim directly. The text is the hinge on which CCRU's politics turns from critique to engineering.
How to read this
For CCRU- cyberpositive, read the opening catastrophe/anastrophe distinction carefully, then track how the Human Security System is positioned against cyberpositive escalation.
For CCRU- cyberpositive, let the compression work on you before trying to paraphrase it away. The force of the text lies in how style and concept accelerate together.
Argument map
Primary claim
Cyberpositive treats the future not as a threat to be managed but as an alien process of convergence and inhuman mutation. Crisis is reinterpreted as the sign of forces assembling beyond human comprehension.
The work's mechanism
The piece moves by compression, slogan, and runaway concatenation. Drugs, cities, cybernetics, viruses, and speculative fiction are fused into one processual account of positive feedback and posthuman transition.
What this work claims
This matters because it is one of the clearest statements of the archive's anti-defensive orientation. The text transforms catastrophe, consumerism, and media contagion into signs of an intelligence that exceeds human security.
Publication context
This work is surfaced here through the Theory-Fiction and Cyberstyle section of the archive. The edition treats it as a text that circulated within a larger scene of lectures, web fragments, and later commentary rather than as a freestanding classic.
The public page keeps the interpretive layer, the supporting text page, and the original file paths distinct, so readers can orient themselves without mistaking the edition for a substitute full-text republication.
How this work reaches the archive
The page uses the canonical extracted text as its reading layer while preserving the original file paths as the archival source of record.
The supporting text page draws on texts-extracted/CCRU- cyberpositive.txt while preserving 1 source file path(s) as the archival source of record.

of stability fortified against the future. There is no space in such a theory for anything truly cyberpositive, subtle or intelligent beyond the objectivity required for human comprehension. Nevertheless, beyond the event horizon of human science, even the investigation of self-stabilizing or cybernegative objects is inevitably enveloped by exploratory or cyberpositive processes.

The modern Human Security System might even have appeared with Wiener's subliminal insight that everything cyberpositive is an enemy of mankind. Evolving out of work on weaponry guidance systems, his was an attempt to enslave cybernetics to a general defence technology against alien invasion.

Viruses reprogram organisms, including bacteria, and even if schizophrenia is not yet virally programmed it will be in the future. Viral financing automatisms escaped the 1 9th century critique of political economy, just as viral infections escaped 1 9th century germ theory. They slip through nets at the cellular scale, passing through the biosecurity membranes.
